Oban Bay

Location

The area immediately surrounding the Appin Peninsula has more than its fair share of sites and attractions, many of them of national significance.

The undulating coastline of Argyll between Oban and Fort William in the North West Scottish Highlands offers spectacular scenery for a relaxing holiday. On the shores of Loch Linnhe, the area around Port Appin features the Isle of Lismore, Ardnamurchan peninsula, and for history buffs there are many ancient castles close by whilst Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, Kidnapped, is based on the true story of the Appin Murder of 1752. The famous Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 took place just a few miles away.

Appin is the perfect base from which to explore the west coast with many of its top attractions within a 30 minute drive, including Glencoe National Heritage Park which offers an abundance of walks ranging from a casual stroll to expert mountaineering.

Just half an hour’s drive away is Oban which, in addition to being an interesting town, is the gateway to many of the Hebridean Islands. A day trip to the island of Mull with its castles, beautiful scenery and wildlife is very popular.
Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain is also close by and can provide superb view from the top of its mountain gondola.

It's worth spending a few days here to take in a few day trips here and there - you could even drive over to Mallaig and take the ferry to Skye.
