We have been so lucky this week with the weather which I have to say has been fantastic! Few places on Scotland’s West coast are more special than Port Appin, where history and scenery collide, Iconic castles sit on rocky islands teaming with wildlife amid breathtaking mountain views. I cannot think of anywhere I would rather be on a sunny day! We are so lucky to now have boat trips going out direct from the pier at the end of the road so no need to travel into Oban if you want to enjoy a boat trip.
The regular 1 hour trip leaves direct from the pier at Port Appin and the journey takes you on a magical sea trip in the comfort and safety of an open RIB – designed to maximise viewing potential. Relax in the company of the friendly and knowledgeable skipper, Alistair, who looks forward to showing you the local attractions and entertaining you with stories of Loch Linnhe’s history.
On the tour you will hopefully see the natural sea arch at Clach Thoull, an iron-age broch (an ancient drystone structure unique to Scotland) on the isle of Lismore, impressive castles including the famous Castle Stalker (Castle Aaaaargh to Monty Python fans), historic lime kilns and the renowned, iconic Appin Lighthouse.
Wildlife comes with no guarantee, but seals, cormorants, eider ducks, otters, porpoises, sea eagles and many other sea birds all live here. Let Alistair share this magical place with you on a leisurely and captivating boat journey around Loch Linnhe.
The price is £20 per adult and £14 per child.
Many guests have already been on the boat trip and each time have eagerly returned saying how wonderful it was and all the wildlife they had seen. The advantage of being able to book it direct at the hotel is also that you can see what the weather is like before committing yourself!!
