Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

Is it cheaper to book directly with the hotel or on-line?

Usually it makes no difference whether you book on line or direct with the hotel.  However, on occasions we have 'special offers' which are publicised only on our website and only bookable direct with the hotel so in these circumstances you will get a better rate booking direct with us.

What are the different types of rooms?

We have 5 grades of rooms:-  Classic Double and Small Superior rooms which have either standard or queen size double beds.  Superior rooms which have king size or twin beds and finally the Junior Suite, Master Suite or Loch View Suite which again have king size or twin beds depending upon your preference.  A number of rooms are able to accommodate additional guests. Cots can be provided.

What meals are included in the rate?

We only offer a dinner, bed and breakfast rate as we feel that dinner is an important part of the experience of staying at The Airds.  However, we do have a 2 bedroom cottage within the grounds and this is available for self catering holidays or if you choose, breakfast can be included in the rate.

What is the dress code in the restaurant?

We do not require a jacket and tie for gentlemen but we do ask guests not to wear jeans, trainers, t-shirts etc.  We describe our dress code as smart casual.

What are check-in/check out times?

Check in is any time from 2pm or in the case of the cottage from 3pm.  Check out time is 11am, although if we are not busy it may be possible to arrange a late check out at no additional cost. Equally you may leave your luggage with us and enjoy the facilities of the hotel until you are ready to depart.

Do you take children?

We are delighted to accept children of all ages but children under the age of 8 are not permitted in the restaurant after 7.30pm.  We do however, serve high tea in the restaurant at 6.30pm or earlier if required and this always proves popular with families wishing to stay. We are able to arrange babysitting for you or alternatively we have a baby listening service.

Do you accept dogs?

Our hotel is dog friendly (read more).

Is there much to do in the area?

There is an enormous amount to do in the area whether it be taking a leisurely walk direct from the hotel in Port Appin, to boating which again can be done from Port Appin, to visiting Oban, horse riding, visiting castles, cycling on the neighbouring island of Lismore, to a day trip to Mull.  For more information please visit our 'activities' page.  We would be more than happy to arrange any activity for you on your behalf.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

We have Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and in the self catering cottage. There is no charge for this. We also have a small 'notepad' available for guests to use.

Is it possible for me to have any treatments whilst staying with you?

We are delighted to be able to offer a full range of treatments from massages and aromatherapy to reflexology and sports treatments, during your time with us and these may be taken in the comfort of your own room.  For more information please see our 'treatment' page.

Do you serve Full Afternoon Tea?

I am delighted to say that we do serve a full afternoon tea whether with or without a glass of champagne!  Our afternoon teas have proved to be very popular and each year become more so. We also have an exciting range of 'speciality' teas such as 'Earl Grey and Blue Flower, 'Green Tea, Honey, Cherry Blossom and Ginseng' and even a 'Gin and Tonic Tea' which has detoxifying qualities. We take our teas very seriously here!
